Unfortunately this is all true, I have been at this campground since I was a baby and my family years before that, and every year we watch it wither away to the nothing it has become today. I was lucky enough to experience Tuxbury in it’s prime, where every Sunday we had softball games. Where every weekend there was a surplus of activities for all ages. The park had a huge castle and right next to it there was a spot to play mini golf. You used to be able to rent canoes and boats to take out on the lake. We had a game room and at one point an adult lounge. Now we have neither. My uncle at one point ran the store/diner, it was called the Lily Pad Diner and it was a huge success before the people managing the place drove him out. We had an ice cream stand, all sorts of necessities, and he also hired kids who camped there to help give them some extra cash for the summer. So yes you may say Tuxbury pond has lost it’s appeal but at one time it was a second home, it was a reason to look forward to summer, if we could just get it back to that point everything would be great!

Wow, what a dump! Sounded so nice on the web page, pictures looked beautiful. Went to check it out, had to walk through since there were gates up. Looks like there is a resturant/store in there but after reading I guess it isn’t staffed. Pool looks good, playground just okay. Lake is gross wouldn’t let my dog in there never mind my kid. Glad I went and now I know to keep looking.

Okay folks, time for a cool off period. Everyone has made it clear that some people really like Tuxbury Pond RV Resort and others really don’t like it. I am a big believer in being to express your opinion, that is why I created this site.

Until further notice I feel it only appropriate to restrict comments on Tuxbury Pond RV Resort. This will allow everyone to relax a little.

Got my contract for the upcoming camping season in the mail today, made me laugh. First I was surprised that there was no increase, finially they are doing something right. Than it said that they do a sweep of the campground to make sure all is left tidy, yeah right, my site was put down as being vacant all last summer (but yet they took my campground fee for the season unless, it ended up in someones pocket) and now we have been gone no trailer there or anything for the past month but, they/she knows this? Still got a contract with our name on it, hellllloooo.

        Lynda,
I have no clue why you would think that your site was listed as vacant because that is not true. Whether your camper was on-site at the time or not, you owned the site for the 2011 season and every person who had a site was sent a contact so that they can make a decision on renewing for the 2012 season. It was not sent in error and i don’t appreciate your insinuating that an employee may have pocketed your fees.

Shannon,’That is right “you have no clue!” YOU said that the lot was listed as vacant the “4” times I came to you about a electric bill. I also NEVER said a employee took the fee monies from me, there is only ONE person in the office that would have gotten my rental fees for the 2011 season.

Some of the negative comments maybe true but most are not…in any case the personal attacks on the staff are in poor taste. I’m a seasonal for four years now and enjoy coming here very much. I have no problem with Shannon or any of the staff and have no intention of going anywhere else. The campground is what YOU make of it. Seems to me most of the negative stuff comes from people who wouldn’t be happy no matter where they camped.

I am a seasonal too for 4 years and I am not happy, I would be happy if all that was promised to me with my seasonal fee actually was true. Having to leave the campground to get milk for my coffee just sucks. They also promised that the lake would be cleaned, yeah right, it has been 4 years since that promise.

Lynne, you really don’t know what you are talking about! Why would the campground CLEAN the pond? They have nothing to do with the water!! I have been camping here for 30 years and I have no problem at all. Camping is what you make of it. I never go to the office so I dont have issues there. I bring enough milk with me! I fish in the unclean pond everyday. I bet you have never even been out on the pond. Its beyond beautiful. The Swans,Ducks,Owls and Beavers. I bet you didn’t even know we have an Eagle on the pond. If you don’t like it here then why do you stay??

Catherine dear, First up I do know what I am talking about, my sister camps nearby and they DO clean the pond, when the level is dropped which the city does they drag the shit out. You should visit the office so you know what is going on, 30 years or not, how do you know what is going on if you don’t inquire? I hope you don’t eat what you catch in that pond, gross. and YES, I have been in the pond when my engine doesn’t seize from getting stuck in the swamp. And yeah I have seen the eagle, poor thing should be dead soon from all the crap in the pond. Oh yeah and I am not staying so you enjoy your getto grounds.

I am a seasonal at Tuxbury I have have to say I disagree w/ many of the negative comments left, especially where they apply to the employees. I personally have had nothing but good experiences in dealing w/ the manager as well as the different workers here. I have never had any sewer issues. There were complaints about activities, I remember when there were next to no activities here. There are a lot more now then there ever were. So they don’t have wifi that goes across the whole park. There are places for you to use wifi and we have free cable, which many places don’t offer either. I do think there are some things that could be done to improve the place but in looking at other parks in the surrounding area I think it is pretty nice here. It would be nice to have the store reopened, but other than that I have been very happy here.

Tuxbury pond “Resort” is a xxxx Hole. The reason it is a dump is becaause it is mismanaged. I am a seasonal camper and have been for many years. I have developed great friendships and relationships there and I love seeing these friends as often as I can during the short camping season we enjoy in New England. Some of you that read this will say: “If its a shit hole, why do you stay there” Its simple, We are hoping for new managment and improvements. Tuxbury Pond was not always like this. This is something that has changed since Shannon became the manager. It is NOT that easy to just pick up and relocate once you have established a good site for your trailer, built your deck, put up your florida room and other items such as laying down gravel, building a fire pit and decorating the site. I dont want to go through the hassel of moving because of an incompitent Manager and staff. The so called staff consists of about 6 people. The manager (Shannon) is a complete idiot and is a complete xxx to people. her husband Bill works there as a maint man / security & overall bafoon. They hired about 4 seaonal campers as part time employees so they can barter (work off) the cost of their site fees. These campers who work there are NOT experienced in what they do and the Manager never leaves her office to check the grounds. They have one full time maint guy (Souppy) He is on disability from his regular job and works at the camp under the table so he doesnt get in trouble with his real emploter who he is scamming!!! He is a lazy, stupid and unqualified to deal with the serious issues that often arise. Tuxbury pond does not offer ANYTHING that is advertised on the website. It is an absolute DUMP. The roads are dirt & gravel and are littered with huge pot holes. The pot holes fill up with muddy water when it rains which allows the speeding (transient) cars to splash you and your children with scum water. The septic system always smells. The restraunt / cafe and store is never open. They blame it on the man (Dave) who used to run it (Dave is another seasonal camper). Dave is a super guy who spent all kinds of money out of his own pocket to fix the place up and they made it impossible for him to keep the place open. The pond is disgusting. You cant fish anywhere from the shore line. The shore line is littered with boats, weeds and debris. The dont have any docks or boat rentals nor a place to keep your own boat. They encourage finding a spot on the shore and chaining it to a tree. There are no more fishing derbys. No Wifi. Half the trees in this camp are dead and infested with bugs and critters. The bathrooms always smell and are dirty. the trash barrels are always full and covered with flies. The activities and dances come to a hault when the transient campers stop camping. The seasonals are threatened with non renewal for speaking up. Many have been told that their lease will not be renewed if they complain. Numerous letters have been written to the corporate office but have nothing has ben done. It seems all they care about is spending as little money as possible and increasing profits. Come by and visit during the week. You will see the manager watering her flowers outside her renovated office. Ask her to come in for a walk around the park. She Will NOT come with you as she never leaves that office area until quitting time of around 12 noon (Nice hours). Talk to some of the campers and see the place before you think about paying to stay any amount of time here. You’ll thank me later!!!!

I think your comments and opinions are very inappropriate and definitely not well communicated. If you hate it so much just move. Dont blame everyone there for your horrible stay. Maybe you should concentrate more on camping and having a good time then on everyones life and business. I think your just miserable and looking for people to blame it on and I bet if you werent so busy watching everyones moves you would have a great time. Leave if its so awful. Im sure they feel the same way about you.

Fred, Your recent posts have been removed because 5 Star Campground’s website was established as a resource where people can leave an honest review of campgrounds. It was not setup to be used as a tool for personal attacks and campground gossip.

I have followed the responses on Tuxbury Pond RV Resort very closely over the past few months and am personally very disappointed in what I have seen in regards to the comments. I don’t have issues with someone leaving a negative review. I do have issues when most of the comments are used to personally attack someone. Many of the comments I have read remind me of school yard bullying.

Because of this I am in the process of revising rules of postng reviews and comments on 5 Star Campgrounds. The new guidelines will state that when leaving a review, personal names or attacks on individuals will not be tolerated and abuse will lead to the reviewer being ban from 5 Star Campgrounds.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

this campground is definately poorly managed! the website claims that they have a store, restuarant, and also wi-fi, the wi-fi you must have to be in the office with the ignorant manager in order to get it. she can’t even answer a simple question without being ignorant.

The above statement is all true except for the “3 dumpsters overflowing”… It’s actually 4 dumpsters overflowing !!!! The lodge is a joke you could die in there & nobody would find you for a week or so & the above author is lucky as he only had to be there a week I on the other hand am a seasonal & as you can imagine my last season !!! The closed store & when it was open it sucked anyway (stuff stayed on shelf until someone someday bought it or it stayed & collected dust) As far as the other seasonals I have met a few good to great people but for the most part they are jerks who glare at you & are very rude !!!

This campground does not live up to it’s description on the internet for sure. We booked a week here with family based on their website and were severely disappointed. How this campground can get away with calling itself a resort is beyond me. It is nothing close to a resort campground! We graciously nicknamed it “The Pit” after being there for 15 minutes. First of all, don’t let the website fool you – there is no cafe, no store (supposedly the guy who was leasing the store pulled out and left and the office claimed they were trying to take it over and reopen it – we couldn’t even buy a bag of ice or a quart of milk!), no adult lounge, I saw no fitness room, although it could have been where the pavillion was but I didn’t venture to look because it was just plain dirty around that area. In front of where the store was supposed to be there was a can used to hold cigarette butts that had been dumped all over the floor and it was there on the first day we were there and still there 7 days later – we rarely saw employees around the campground – only on the weekends and even then they were pretty much just driving around on golf carts, I didn’t see them cleaning anything any time I saw them. The bathrooms were horrible. The cleanest one being up by the office yet it smelled like raw sewage and to take a shower in there made you gag. Several times we used the toilet in there and people didn’t flush their waste – I mean what kind of people don’t flush their crap? Gross! the laundry room was so gross – overflowing garbage and dead bugs on the floors and walls. The table provided to fold laundry was stashed up against the wall and was filthy! Washing machine was broke w/no note telling you so after a load we had to hand wring all of our clothes out. When we told the office gal, she said “oh yah that has been having issues, someone must have taken the sign off it”…..No refund of my dollar offered, no “I’m sorry”…..The pond pictured looks nothing like that – it is one big huge lily pad! the campground is surrounded by swamp which breeds huge mosquitoes that come out as soon as the sun goes down and attack you even with bug spray on – and bite you right thru blue jeans! Campfires were few because we all got bitten so badly – Over a week later and we still have scabs and scars from the damn bugs! The pool area could be nice but there are no rules – kids are running and screaming thru the pool area and jumping in and splashing people over and over – which was an issue with us as we were in the pool with our 12 month old. No respect for others at all and no parental control over a lot of the kids. People were eating in the pool area, which created trash and spilled food on the concrete which was gross. We found balled up toiled paper on the side of the pool one day and the pool bottom had pockets of dirt and sand piled up in them and the sides of the pool were slippery and grimy. Kids were eating pizza IN the pool, even saw a girl spit out her food into the pool and then swim away from it. GROSS! Another couple in our group only came for the last weekend we were there and no one cleaned up their site after the other occupants left, therefore there was a pile of trash on their site and they had to go up and ask someone to come and remove it. No one inspects sites after someone leaves, therefore fire pits are overflowing with ashes and trash is left behind. Speaking of trash, nothing like driving into a campground and being greeted by three huge overflowing dumpsters and a pile of old tv’s sitting beside them – great first impression! This campground is full of seasonal campers, who were friendly but loud and drove way too fast when they were there on the weekends. There was no one enforcing quiet times so on Saturday nights after the dj/dance – there were loud campsite parties going on well into the night (2AM one night). No one seems to really care much about this campground – it has great potential, a beautiful Great Lodge that is filthy inside and out and not being used as much as it could be. It is really sad to see a campground this big be so horribly managed and taken care of. I guess we got what we paid for. We are used to camping at Powder Horn and Bayley’s in Old Orchard Beach, Maine and paying over double per night that we paid here – and it sure is true you get what you pay for! I will never return to this campground and caution anyone looking into it. This vacation taught us a great lesson – always go and see the campground before you book a weeks vacation there. We feel like we wasted a week staying here at “The Pit”
