After planning a trip to Lake in Wood since January, we were all set to go after packing up the camper all day before departure in the 95 degree heat (while chasing around a two year old) until midnight the night before due to my husband and I having to work all week. Needless to say we departed in the morning after a quick emergency dentist. This trip was planned with three other families who were traveling separately but where meeting us there. My sister’s family and my mom were following us. We made it half way from New Jersey to the camp ground when we pulled over to do a diaper check on my daughter; my husband got out to check the camper door and compartments and noticed that there was transmission fluid leaking out of our truck. We determined there was no way possible to tow the camper with this vehicle the rest of the way. I went to a dealership nearby for advice, called Enterprise, called Uhaul, asked a friend. We had no luck from any of the above. After pacing the parking lot of the dealership for 3 hours we came to the realization that it was over …we had to cancel. I called and advised the receptionist what was going on and she said ok however you are going to lose you deposit which I accepted at the time. My three children were beyond upset and cried most of the way home as well as my sisters children. The following day my brother in law called and spoke to the manager who agreed to refund my brother in law half of his deposit which was $100.00. I called and spoke to a very nice receptionist who stated that because of the type of site they would not refund anything. Then she put me on a brief hold while she spoke to the manager. She came back on the line and said he will refund you $74.00 but asked that you don’t ever make a reservation here again. I was and am still shocked by that comment. I really didn’t call for the refund I was hoping that maybe they would credit me for another time. I would like to add that at no time while making the reservation was I informed of the cancellation policy nor was my sister when she made hers. It isn’t even about the money it’s the who gives a crap attitude for a situation that was completely beyond our control. I would also like to add that I spoke to a friend about what happened and he told me that the same thing happened to him when his father in law passed away and they asked him not to come back either. Terrible business
