Boyd Lake State Park Details

Boyd Lake State Park is a water-sports haven for northern Colorado.  The lake lies at the western-most edge of the plains at the foot of snow-capped Long's Peak and the mountains of the Continental Divide.

Boyd Lake State Park has something for everyone: boating, fishing, picnicking, swimming, hiking, biking, and hunting.

All types of watercraft: ski boats, fishing boats, jet skis, sailboats, canoes, use Boyd Lake's 1,700 surface-acres of water. Boyd also has a sandy beach and a pavilion for swimmers. Boyd Lake State Park also has a modern campground with 148 paved pull-through sites that can accomodate vehicles up to 40 feet in length. Camp sites are located on a grassy knoll dotted with trees near the lake. The easily accessible sites can accommodate tents, pick-up campers, trailers and motor homes. All sites have 20, 30 and 50 amp electric hookups. Each site has a picnic table and grill. Three restrooms with showers, playground equipment and horseshoe pits are scattered throughout the campground. Campers must have a camping permit and a valid parks pass.

Boyd Lake State Park's  Main Boat Ramp is a six-lane ramp located at the Marina at the east end of the marina parking lot. There is a two-lane Heron Cove Ramp, located just north of the group picnic area and used to launch small craft (i.e. Jet Skis. The Main Ramp is used to launch larger craft. It is MANDATORY that all water craft be inspected before launch at either ramp. Inspections are performed at the Main Boat Ramp only. Click on link at right for the ANS Inspection Hours.

Groups of up to 200 people can reserve Mariner Point Group Picnic Area located on a secluded peninsular just north of the marina cove. This private area includes a covered  pavilion,  tables, fire grills, electrical outlets, food preparation countertops, water, sink, restroom facility, and  a fireplace. A volleyball court, horseshoe pits and a playground area are located next to the covered facility.

The Boyd Lake Visitor Center is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm, and closed on Monday & Tuesday throughout the Fall/Winter Season. We sell Boat, Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) & Snowmobile registrations as well as Colorado State Park Passes & Permits.

  • Please camp only in designated sites and display the campground permit in the marker at each campsite.
  • A holding tank dump station is located in the campground.It is illegal to dump any wastewater, including dishwater, anywhere except the dump station.
  • Please also note NO inflatable bouncing/jumping devices for kids are allowed and NO public address systems may be used.
  • Pets are allowed on Boyd Lake State Park but must be kept on leash at all times.
  • If you do not have a reservation during the summer peak season, you may camp at Boyd Lake if space is available. When space is available for camping you need to be sure the site you choose to camp in does not have a reservation card in the numbered post marker at each site.  Additionally, you may only purchase two nights at a time without a reservation.

Recreation near Boyd Lake State Park

  • One of the best ways to enjoy Boyd Lake State Park is on foot. Walking and biking are enjoyed along the paved and grassy trails beside the beaches, under cool cottonwood trees and next to the water's edge. Boyd's trails join with the city of Loveland'srecreation trail system at the south and north ends of the park. Cross-country skiers can use the trails during the winter.

Directions to Boyd Lake State Park

From I-25:

  • Take exit 257 and travel West.
  • Continue on Highway 34/East Eisenhower Boulevard to Madison Avenue (appx 3 miles).
  • Turn North on Madison Avenue (right turn) until you reach East 37th Street (appx 1 mile) where you will go east (right turn again).
  • The direction sign for the Boyd Lake turn at 37th Street is on the left side of the street. [note: if you reach a dirt road you have just passed the turn for 37th Street]
  • Follow E. 37th Street for about 1/2 mile, it curves north and is renamed County Road 11-C, Boyd Lake State Park is on the East side of this road.
