One Response to Blythe Island Regional Park Campground

This is good campground with some really exceptionally friendly staff. The grounds are very well kept, it has good water (not sulphur which is ubiquitous along the coast and throughout Florida), and good security.

In dry times, the dust from the lime-rock-topped roads is bad but that’s the trade-off to insure good traction on the sand.

    One main caveat:
This is a local government (Glynn County, Georgia) owned and operated facility. The county commissioners here (like every where else I’m familiar with) think they are a “think-tank” of experts on every conceivable area of business and finance.
The local power does NOT want long-term campers even though I (we) spent quite a bit in local restaurants and businesses on top of the $475.00 a month site rental. But, of course, they were elected to make these “sound financial decisions” If the campground was full to the point of turning folks away I would understand. But they are not, not even close.

I was a site renter for over a year and the rates went up twice, from under $400.00 to $475.00

The grounds are frequently swarming with family reunions, boy scout camporees, girl scout field days and other youth groups from the area who take over the bath houses, rest rooms, picnic tables, fishing pier and pretty much everything else. If you happen to be camping during one of these many “events” just be prepared. I know of no problems with any of these groups except for the over crowding and that if you’re looking for a quiet, peaceful camping experience….

Anyway, I am now blissfully located in a campground (privately owned, thank heavens!) on the Steinhatchee River. I have a boat dock, fishing pier, boat ramp, boat storage area and ice machine all within 150′ of my campsite and included in my monthly rate of $200.00 per month (annual basis). I get two nights a month included and pay $10.00 per night over those two.

In summary, there are much better priced, much less crowded and much quieter campgrounds around with much better fishing than Blythe Island Recreation Area.
