We spent two days camping here. To say the website pictures are deceiving is an understatement. This “Resort” is a dump! We were excited about our lakeside campsite with private dock….more like. Mud pit with a broken down picnic table and a water tap laying on the ground. The “Private” dock was not very private the sites on both sides had docks only a foot away! By the time we set up our two tents and put our chairs in front of the fire pit we had no room to move. The bathrooms were gross and the toilets rocked when you sat down. We were eating breakfast the first morning and saw a huge rat run across our site into the bushes. I do think the e has potential but a whole lot of work needs to be done. Our kids were excited about the youth centre as well but it turned out to be a smelly, dark, she’d type building with a broken air hockey table, fuseball table with no balls and a stinky old couch. The management was friendly enough but lacked enthusiasm. I don’t blame them in that work environment. Even the rental board are ancient. If you like no frills camping, this is your place. We will go somewhere else next time. We love camping but this was like setting up camp in a garbage dump in a third world country. Rated F for frightening!

DO NOT GO TO BLUE LAKE RESORT. The only time the word ‘resort’ should be used to describe this place is ‘last resort’. I was part of a sorority that had 40 some of its members drive up from Vancouver for an annual retreat. We had most of our members stay at the main Lodge, and some at one of the rustic cabins. When we FINALLY made it up the steep gravel road – which we were not told about – on a charter bus, we were shocked to discover the state of the Lodge. Many fixtures were broken, cobwebs everywhere, and it looked like the place had not been cleaned in the last decade. Now I understand many ‘real’ campers would just laugh at us city girls, but the icing on top of the cupcake was the mouse I found IN our OVEN within an hour of checking into the lodge. On the second night, we could hear mice running through the walls of the lodge, and on the last night 3 difference mice appeared, running through the house. The place was gross, dirty, and a health hazard. When the owner Shane was notified of the rats he came to check out the lodge but did nothing when he couldn’t find the rat just saying that the traps would get it at night. He also clearly lied to all of us saying it was the “first live sighting of the summer” and that they don’t tolerate rodents there. He also tried to convince me that I saw a pack rat and not a real mouse. Just because we are from the city does not mean we can’t tell one from the other. The lake itself was nice, but not worth the drive at all. The only good thing I have to say is that under the circumstances, management did as much as they could have. They lent us a complimentary propane tank, and upkeep was good, at least for the things that could still be maintained. I would never ever come here again, and would not be surprised if inspection shut the place down.

    Worst Vacation EVER!

We started out as three small families of the same larger family and ended up with four on the last day. They said this would be fine and gave us a double campsite. When the kids went to bed we liked to sit around the fire talking and catching up with eachother. Out of all of us there were 9 adults, aunts uncles parents grandparents and we had some drinks and talked. This was too loud for the owner who walked up into my uncles face with a flashlight and started harassing him and saying “THIS IS MY LAND THIS IS MY LAND I OWN THIS PROPERTY” We were flabbergasted. He was practically throwing a temper tantrum right in our campsite. Anyways this was at 10:30 and we went to bed half hour later. The next night we stayed up until 2 am talking. He came in and said we were all evicted. I said I could not put my one year old in the vehicle and drive he said HE DIDNT CARE! Of course we didn’t go and went to bed. In the morning he PUT HIS HEAD INTO A TENT WITH CHILDREN IN IT AND MY SISTER WHOM WAS WEARING HER UNDERWEAR TO SLEEP IN. And said “TIME TO GO GET UP GET OUT THE POLICE HAVE BEEN CALLED” When the rest of the family heard that he walked into her tent like that, they exploded. The owners son started being rude to everyone and telling my little 6 year old niece that she’d better hurry up when she needed to use the bathroom. Then my 7 and 6 year old nieces were playing at the park across from us while we packed said that one of the men came up and said “they had better watch themselves”!!?? Because of how inexcusably rude they were being to our children and trying to intimidate the women, it almost came to blows. Then once he had riled everyone up and the cops showed up he acted as if we were freaking out for no reason. All in all, we paid for a service and felt violated. I believe we should have even gotten our money back. The resort is beautiful and the ladies at the front are awesome but its not worth it. This has been the worst vacation I have ever had because of the power tripping owner. Do not go there, there are tons of other resort around the same area and just as beautiful. Good luck and have a great trip.

Stayed May 2013, travelled with family

Our family had a great time. The first night, there were some young punks being loud in their own little world oblivious to everyone else. (as you will find at any resort or provincial campground sometimes) What impressed me was how quickly the management team controlled them that night and got them to leave the next morning. Lots of young families, everyone friendly, great fishing, bathrooms clean and regularly kept up, very caring/friendly management, great hiking, beautiful scenery… we will be back soon!

You’re going to see negative reviews from prissy campers all the time. Keep in mind, these people usually are not real campers. They should quit their whining, buy a 5th wheel and stay in it. That’s the only way some people can handle the outdoors…

Wow, man up you pansies. I just went to Blue Lake for the first time and I think it was awesome. I’m not surprised that there were mice around the resort considering it’s in the middle of a real forest. This isn’t some Stanley Park nonsense, it’s the real deal. If you leave your cabin door open then wildlife will get in geniuses. The road up was an incline that didn’t even give pause to my RV. N

I am very surprised by the other comments, I spent the May long weekend (a notorious party weekend) at Blue Lake Resort and had a wonderful time, the staff were super friendly, the facilities were clean and accessible, and the surroundings were beautiful! They had hiking trails, easy access to the lake, a playground for the kids, a list of suggestions of things to do and see in the nearby area, and a great ‘tongue in cheek’ bear display I got a real giggle out of. The staff accomodated a specal request I had, I met both the people running the place, and one evening, the owner even stopped by and chatted for a few minutes. The road up is a little rough – but compared to going out on the logging roads to some Provincial parks… was a short and easy haul, AND they were out there with the bobcat, smoothing it out the Friday before the long weekend! I had a great time at the Blue Lake Resort, and will def be going back again!

The other reviews just about say it all…

The road up to the site is scary…a warning would have been nice.
We stayed in a cabin, nearly puked upon entering due to the horrendous smell. The place was filthy, bathroom appeared to have not been washed in months, slime coating the kitchen sink. Large rodents inside the cottage us in the morning.

Yes, quoted one price but charged more. The cost of the cabin for what is was – unbelievably overpriced.

Playground and bridges looked like an accident waiting to happen.

    Customer service very poor.

Would highly recommend AVOIDING this place.

This was my first time here and honestly,,,Wow!, this place “could” be great. The cabins need some TLC and really need some pest control, yes we are in nature but to be kept up every night by mice in walls?. And snakes, holy cow, never seen so many garter snakes before in my life. The beach is small but functional, kids loved the lake, but I wish the no ATV rule applied to staff or friends of staff ( I am assuming staff as they seemed quite comfortable in doing so) as they just drove right into beach area to fire off spud guns, and to top that off, they let the young kids fire them, these things blow up, what if they got hurt, how about some better judgement/consideration. The pictures on site are misleading and to be up-charged upon arrival was a shocker. So much potential with this place though, the lake is beautiful and the hiking trails are great, lots of trees. Maybe was a bad weekend but honestly a little bit of tlc would go a long way. Would consider trying again, but will have to watch their website for changes

Our family had a reunion here this past weekend and to say anything good would be hard pressed. The rustic cabins as they are called should be burned and rebuilt. The mice excrement is all over the cabins my older sister and husband refused to stay in the cabin and met with un profession management. The play ground looks like a bunch of 12 year olds put together with rusty nails and what ever they could find lying around. The hole place has huge potential but someone needs to put some tlc into it and fix things and make them safe. I will say one good thing and that is the men’s washroom was cleaned quite regular but man talk about a crap hole. We left a day early and most of are family did as well the whole place needs to be fixed up and all that money being charged should be put back into the place. And one more thing these so call new shower facilities who does things like this no thought was put into the showers not good for families with young kids. We and I’m sure all my family will better research our next place before dropping all that money for such a hole of a place.

We stayed here this BC day long weekend. We arrived with reservations booked a month ahead of time… we gave the management the specifics of our tent sizes, party sizes and vehicles. We prepaid. We were assured that the the site would meet our needs. Upon arriving, we discovered a steep and rocky dirt road, which we were not told about, as well as a campsite that was not suitable for one small tent! We did tell management and were switched to another site- but only because we bumped someone elses reservations. The site was not level, and we were on-top of other campers. We would have turned around if it wasnt for the almost four hour drive for us with two young kids…
To make matters worse, the clearly stated rules were never enforced. This is not a family friendly environment. The park is dangerous with nails sticking out everywhere, and the bridge to the bathroom is questionable aswell. The washrooms were a mess, and there was no working soap to clean your hands. I understand that this is an out door “resort” BUT if you are charging people for small unusable sites, right on top of eachother than make an effort to have soap in the bathrooms!
The 50 foot beach was nice, but definately too small for the amount of campers there. I agree with a previous poster that there are return visitors who just let their kids wander and scream at all hours.
The noise was unbarable… with music blasting well into 2 am. I was hoping at some point to be surprised into enjoying myself, but that did not happen and we packed up and left early due to noise and lack of relaxation.
I would like to say that the website is deceiving- it is a neglected property… the games room is a joke! This place would be nice if they had some sort of upkeep and replacment of things as they broken down… really it would only take a bit of work to level the sites so they are usable… and stop putting people in sites that are not really sites. Also- was charged more than originally agreed upon arrival…

I am so sad that we wasted money here, and time! We could have gone elsewhere… and have learned our lesson… please dont waste your money!

We were booked into a lakeside campsite for Canada Day Long weekend in 2011. The noise level was unbearable, and the amount of foot traffic around the entire campsite was astonishing. It felt as though the noise never ended, early in the morning there would be music playing, kids screaming on the beach (we’re talking HUNDREDS and since Blue Lake is surrounded by mountains on every side, the echoes are very loud).

As we entered we saw large signs that showed strict noise regulations in place but we never saw this enforced once. It seemed as though every night was a party, and although we understood it WAS Canada Day, we heard partying as late as 3am!!! This “resort” is NOT as advertised and is TEEMING with suburbanites who don’t know what real outside relaxation is.

We would NEVER visit this place EVER again and would not recommend it for anyone who likes to get away to enjoy some peace and quiet. It may be close to the city, but honestly, we feel more relaxed in our East Vancouver apartment than we EVER did at this place.

Oh– another few highlights: The management and the owners’ son(who seems to be acting as his parents proxy) have very poor to no communication skills. We experienced this total lack of communication first hand when a site problem arose.

Secondly, apart from one building with flush toilets, the pithouses are actually portapotties and by Sunday of the longweekend the amount of excrement was literally less than one foot from the toilet lid. Digustingly out of hand, especially for a place which charges SO much to hear screaming 24/7!

Third, there is a very “stepford” feel to the place, as in, many families who come back year after year and drink all day/let their children run wild. This was shown to us in the fact that kids were constantly screaming, running through other peoples campsites without awareness or respect, and riding ATV vehicles around the campsite from 8am to 10pm.

Definitely a waste of money and a waste of a perfectly good long weekend. Spend another hour driving and find somewhere else…

Of course, if camping in a city environment with poor amenities and questionable management techniques is up your alley, by all means, Blue Lake Resort is for you!
