Big Lake State Park Details

Cool waters and abundant wildlife make Big Lake State Park a place to get away in northwest Missouri. Visitors can canoe and jet ski on the state's largest oxbow lake that adjoins the park or watch for smooth soft-shelled turtles lazing away the day in the park's marsh. Big Lake is a wetland that migrating birds use as a resting stop, affording bird watchers an unparalleled opportunity to see yellow-headed blackbirds, blue herons, soras and rails. Take advantage of the camping and lodging opportunities while you are there.

  • Big Lake State Park offers basic and electric campsites. On-season (April through October) services include a dump station, modern restrooms, showers (north showerhouse), water, laundry and reservable sites.  The south showerhouse opens May 1.
  • Reservations can be made for stays during the on-season. There is a required two-night minimum stay for reservations on weekends.
  • Firewood is sold at the park store during the on-season.  Campers planning to carry in firewood must comply with current firewood advisories.
  • During the off-season (November through March), potable water is available from the frost-free spigot at the dump station
  • 76 sites, 20 PullThru's, 18' wide, 30' long, 30 amps

One Response to Big Lake State Park

Wow! What can I say about Big Lake State Park in Missouri. We were so completely disappointed. The missouri state park website wrote a check that could not and should not be cashed. I would rather camp next to a freeway on-ramp. This is not even close to a decent camping experience. Although it seems like a good place to stop and buy some meth. Save your gas or just drive to Indian cave state park in Nebraska which is only 20 min. away from big lake although that may not be far enough.
